As always, the event will reward and recognise high achievers within the shipping and maritime sectors in a glittering, high quality ceremony attended by key decision makers from across the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent.

This is the sixth time that the Awards have been staged by The Maritime Standard to celebrate success, quality and innovation within the region’s maritime industry. Nominations are invited from companies active in shipping, ports and other segments of the maritime market in the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent. Clive Woodbridge, Editor of The Maritime Standard, and Chairman of the judging panel says, “We are expecting another record number of entries and, if last year is anything to go by, it will be extremely difficult to separate them. The level of quality and innovation in the region is at an all-time high and that is reflected in intense competition for all these awards.”

TMS Awards judging panel comprises several eminent executives, all renowned experts in their fields with many years of experience in various aspects of the maritime industry. The judges are drawn from across the region and independently assess the nominations and submit marks based on predetermined criteria to ensure a transparent and fair process.

This year we are opening nominations a little earlier than we have in the past so please use that time wisely!”

They are in particular the only Awards where all the major shipowners and operators from across the region are represented, something that TMS is extremely proud of.

The Awards are now firmly positioned as one of the world's leading shipping and maritime Awards gala dinners and are the premier event of their kind in the region. Hospitals in Taiwan Make a Commitment to Eliminate Preventable Patient Harm & Death in Hospitals

IRVINE, Calif. & TAICHUNG,Taiwan-Tuesday 30 April 2019 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Patient Safety Movement Foundation (PSMF) and the Taiwan Patient Safety Culture Club (TPSCC) announced today that 4 hospitals and 1 healthcare organization made a public commitment to helping eliminate preventable patient harm and death in hospitals by implementing the PSMF’s Actionable Patient Safety Solutions (APSS). The commitments were made at the 3rd Annual Patient Safety Rally hosted by TPSCC in Taichung, Taiwan on April 27, 2019. Over 130 clinicians, hospital administrators and patient advocates were in attendance. Founded in 2012 by Dr. Chan Liao, TPSCC is the only not-for-profit patient safety advocacy group in Taiwan.

“We are excited and encouraged to see these healthcare organizations put patient safety above all else,” said Dr. David Mayer, Chief Executive Officer of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation. “In just 2 years, these dedicated clinicians and administrators from 38 organizations have implemented solutions that have saved 1,631 lives. We look forward to working closely with their team and hope that every hospital in Taiwan implement every APSS by 2020.”

“We are working to unify the healthcare ecosystem in Taiwan and are committed to helping our hospitals eliminate preventable patient deaths by implementing the evidence-based APSS,” said Dr. Chan Liao, Founder & President of the Taiwan Patient Safety Culture Club. “I attended the World Patient Safety, Science and Technology Summit in 2017 and was so inspired that I wanted to mirror their efforts in Taiwan. I became the Regional Chair for Taiwan and am so proud of the organizations that have joined us with a public commitment. We just announced the PatientAider app has been launched in Traditional Chinese. I believe this will help empower patients in Taiwan to take a more active role in their healthcare. We are grateful to the Patient Safety Movement Foundation for their inspiration and strong support. I have no doubt that together we will reach zero patient harm and deaths in our hospitals.”

Dr. Chan Liao presented his organization’s commitment at the World Patient Safety, Science and Technology Summit. Presentation link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgz-SUFbKmQ

TPSCC revealed the Patient Safety Movement’s PatientAider® mobile app is now available in Traditional Chinese for both iPhone and Android users. This was done in collaboration with a solution called Contentful. The PatientAider is designed to cut through confusing medical jargon to provide an easy to understand explanation of medical terms, protocols, and risks that hospital patients may encounter. It will be a valuable source of medical information that is designed to help patients and their loved ones navigate their hospital care.

Dr. Steven Barker, a member of the Board of Directors for PSMF, introduced the Patient Safety Movement’s mission, goals and strategies to attendees. He also provided a detailed presentation on the APSS called Hand-Off Communications. According to Joint Commission, ineffective patient care handoffs between providers or teams have been the largest single contributor to preventable patient deaths. The PSMF developed a new approach to patient handoffs, using a specific, detailed checklist for each of the 18 types of handoffs identified.

Speakers at the rally included:

Brandyn Lau, MPH, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
Shin Ushiro MD, PhD, Kyushu University Hospital, Japan
Steven J. Barker, PhD, MD, Chief Science Officer, Masimo

2019 Organizations that have made commitment(s) include:

Taiwan Society of Anesthesiologists (Partner): TSA was founded in 1956 and now has more than 1,400 members. TSA is the first national anesthesiology society in Asia to join the Movement.
Tsao-Tun Psychiatric Center (Hospital): The biggest psychiatric center in Central Taiwan.
Tainan Sin-Lau Hospital (Hospital): The oldest Western hospital in Taiwan.
Tao Yuan General Hospital (Hospital): The biggest medical center operated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Cheng Ching Hospital: One of the oldest hospitals in Taichung.

AerSale Partnering with Universal Avionics to Develop STC for ClearVisionTM Enhanced Flight Vision System on Airbus 320 Aircraft

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Tuesday 30 April 2019 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- AerSale®, a global supplier of mid-life aircraft, engines, used serviceable material, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, announced today it is partnering with Universal Avionics to develop a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the ClearVision Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) on Airbus 320 aircraft. FAA certification for the retrofit upgrade is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2020, with Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) validation to immediately follow. AerSale will also handle ClearVision installation.

Manufactured by Universal Avionics, the ClearVision EFVS solution includes the SkyLensTM Head-Wearable Display (HWD), a cost-effective and more modern alternative to a traditional fixed Head-Up Display (HUD). The SkyLens high-transparency visor presents high-resolution symbology/imagery, including an Enhanced Vision System (EVS), Synthetic Vision System (SVS), and Combined Vision System (CVS) for superior see-through transmission in all weather conditions, day and night. The state-of-the-art HWD requires significantly less installation effort and can often be installed in a few days, compared to a fixed HUD that requires disassembly of the aircraft cockpit and can take weeks—all while the aircraft is grounded.

“We are proud to work with Universal Avionics to apply our STC-development expertise to the ClearVision EFVS, which will certainly prove to be a game-changer for A320 operators worldwide,” said Iso Nezaj, Chief Technical Officer at AerSale. “Once the STC has been issued by the FAA, we’ll install ClearVision in a fraction of the time required for current systems, maximizing flight time for our customers.”

AerSale has previously developed STCs for its own proprietary products including AerSafeTM, a more economical fuel tank flammability reduction option, and AerTrakTM, a cost-effective ADS-B Out solution, as part of the company’s engineered solutions and parts manufacturing capabilities.

“We are excited to partner with AerSale to offer a high-performance EFVS and wearable HUD solution to the A320 market,” said Dror Yahav, Universal Avionics CEO. “This STC will allow A320 operators to install EFVS breakthrough technology, for the first time, in a commercially affordable way.”

As part of the NextGen roadmap, ClearVision aligns with Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) 91.176 released by the FAA, enabling operators to perform a full landing procedure with no natural vision, where the reported visibility is as low as 1,000 feet. The ClearVision system offers unmatched capabilities for airline operators, providing dispatch and landing approach priority as well as low visibility landing, regardless of the destination airport’s infrastructure.

For example, Moody’s partnered with WEConnect International, a global organization that supports women-owned businesses and champions gender-inclusive sourcing.

Activating an environmentally sustainable future

Moody’s expertise in credit ratings, research and risk analysis helps facilitate investment in sustainable development. In 2018, Moody’s completed 21 new Green Bond Assessments, covering $7 billion of debt, to assist investors in their evaluation of green bond offerings used to finance environmental projects.

Helping young people reach their potential

Through its partnership with non-profits around the world Moody’s helps to prepare young people aged 15-24 for successful careers in finance, technology and economics. In 2018 we created the Queer Coders program with the Hetrick-Martin Institute, which supports LGBTQI youth in New York, with a particular focus on people of color. The program helps young LGBTQI people to develop their technical skills and explore their passion for coding.
