ADP Community Police Department Concludes the Internet Awareness Program

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, April 9th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Department of Community Police at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters concluded the Internet Awareness Program. The program was conducted in cooperation and coordination with the Security Media Department and with the participation of the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi, and the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate. The following strategic external partners also contributed: Al Ittihad newspaper, Emirates Transport, the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, and a number of shopping centers.

Major Yussef Faraj, Chief of the Community Awareness Section at the Department of Community Police, explained that the outreach program has been implemented in order to guide and educate those who surf the web, and provide Internet users with essential guidelines and instructions on how to positively use websites.

He pointed out that around 1,000 awareness booklets were prepared by the cadre of the Community Police and distributed across the UAE through the agreement and coordination with Al Ittihad newspaper and other partners. The coordination was hinged upon the collaborative agreement to present messages of awareness regarding the proper and safe use of websites alongside essential preventative measures Internet users should take when using large screens. “Major emphasis has been placed on increasing awareness around the proper usage of highly frequented sites, such as social networking sites, and on ‘e-commerce’ sites where users buy and sell items,” he said. The management at the Dalma Mall additionally participated in the cooperative partnership and utilized the display screen and fixed billboards to advertise the messages of the awareness program to the public.

“The program focused on educating parents on the best methods used when teaching children about web safety,” he said as he explained that the Community Police conduct awareness programs and campaigns only after they have thoroughly researched and discussed the phenomenon. “The solutions that we present to the public are based on the collaborative and integrated work that has gone through the police sectors.”

Aamer Al Shehhi, Director of the Emirates Transport Station and partnership officer with the Community Police, praised the community-centered role of the Abu Dhabi Police and said: “The Abu Dhabi Police have become a hallmark of what community work is, and they have made positive impacts for both individuals and institutions.”

Adding further, he stressed that the strategic relationship between the police and government institutions ensure the sustainability of cooperation in achieving objectives, enhancing community security, and in embodying the concepts of social solidarity through the provision of community services that garner results almost instantly.

According to Al Shehhi, a total of 2,900 people benefited from the program within only five working days, where awareness messages have been displayed on eight of the Emirates Transport webpages in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region.
