ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, April 3rd 2016 [ME NewsWire]
The Emirati runner and former UAE team runner Rashid Butti Al Qubaisi from the Ministry of Interior staff won the first place at the Reebok Spartan Race. The race was held for the first time at Hamad International Endurance Village in the Kingdom of Bahrain; while our hero Lahj Abdulkarim came in second place assuring the UAE domination in the race.
His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee crowned the winners of the race which witnessed the participation of over 3500 runners from 21 countries. The race featured competitions which demanded high physical strength, as well as skills and agility to overcome 16 various obstacles including tires, drenches, walls, and water canals which were set on the course. The race is considered to be one of the most challenging and exciting races, where the top 10 winners are qualified to participate in the world championship.
The Higher Organizing Committee also honored Al Qubaisi as a former runner in the UAE Athletics Team, and a coach for the Abu Dhabi Police Team. The honoring came as an appreciation for his athletic career and honorable participations; especially his participation in the first edition of the Obstacle Course Racing World Championship in the USA, as the sole Arab and GCC citizen to qualify for the championship at the Olympic Village in Lake Tahoe, California in October 2015.
