ADP Traffic Intensifies Supervision with the Mobile Radar “Al Qannas” to Reduce Vehicle Speeds

Celebrated the Arab Traffic Week under the theme “We Care about Your Safety”

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, May 5th 2016 [ME NewsWire]

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police has equipped its patrols with the mobile radar “Al Qannas”, in support of traffic officers’ efforts to maintain road safety and provide a safe environment for all road users. The directorate called upon the public to take advantage of the awareness efforts made by the police authorities during the traffic weeks’ activities and events, which aim to strengthen commitment to traffic laws and acquaint community members with the most common causes of accidents and ways to prevent them.

On the occasion of the Arab Traffic Week, held under the theme “We Care about Your Safety”, Brigadier Khamis Ishaq Mohammed, Director of the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, urged drivers to observe the legal speed limits; maintain a safe distance between vehicles; and not to use the phone while driving. He also urged external road users to be cautious and careful and to follow the safety instructions.

Brigadier Mohammed highlighted the traffic safety efforts exerted by traffic and civil patrols equipped with the “Al Qannas” radar to catch violators, issue fines to them and acquaint them with the violation they have committed. He also noted that excessive speeding is the leading cause of traffic accidents that result in deaths and serious injuries.

Brigadier Mohammed also stressed the commitment of the directorate to avail traffic-related events to strengthen social communication and spread the traffic safety culture, in an effort to preserve lives and property, as these accidents have significant negative impacts and deplete the main components of society. “These traffic-related events include the Arab Traffic Week, which reflects the serious pursuit of countries in the Arab world to reduce accidents and achieve traffic safety,” he continued.

Furthermore, Brigadier Mohammed noted that the Zayed Higher Organization took part in the awareness activities organized by the directorate during the Arab Traffic Week. The directorate offered presents at the Games Carnival, and hosted a set of lectures that are appropriate to people with special needs’ mental abilities. This approach, which falls in line with the “Plants of Hope” initiative that was launched by the Ministry of Interior, reflects the significant attention dedicated by the directorate to maintain the safety of people with special needs and to provide them with the necessary support and assistance to help them overcome their disability in its various forms and activate their role in society as productive and active individuals who have equal opportunities to develop their talents and achieve their aspirations in various fields of life, just like other individuals.

Adding further, he said: “The Traffic Week included an awareness- raising exhibition in Dalma Mall with the participation of a number of entities including the Emirates Driving Company, Emirates Transport, Abu Dhabi Education Council, Ambulance and Rescue Department, the Community Police, and the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department.  The exhibition included traffic-related documentary films, brochures distribution, an educational village, and a drawing workshop. These activities aim to increase the positive role of drivers in committing to traffic laws to protect lives and property”.

The ‘Tathqeef’ Education Patrols also carried out a field awareness program aimed at promoting the traffic safety culture amongst drivers; while the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) took part in the  traffic safety competition organized at Al Bawadi School in Baniyas.
