The Higher Committee for Combating Drugs at the Ministry of Interior reviewed a presentation provided by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), on drug traffickers’ movement patterns analysis across international airports and criminal methods used by drug traffickers through airports.

The committee convened under the chairmanship of Colonel Saeed Abdullah Tawir Al Suwaidi, Director General, Anti-Narcotics Federal General Directorate at the Ministry of Interior, and Chairman of the Committee. The meeting was held at the conference room of the Anti-Narcotics General Directorate’s Headquarters at Dubai Police, and was attended by heads of anti-narcotics departments and sections in the country.

The committee discussed the treatment approaches for drug addiction and the rehabilitation process, as well as the appropriate measures to encourage drug users to seek safe and confidential treatment, which is provided in coordination with the competent federal rehabilitation centers and with close follow-up of the competent Anti-Narcotics officers. The committee recommended working according to the law to allow drugs users and abusers to return to a normal life, away from addiction.

The committee also discussed the preparations for the upcoming celebrations of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2016, a day that is marked every year on June 26.
