Opening of the International Cyber Crimes Conference

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, March 16th 2016 [ME NewsWire]

Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior opened this morning (Wednesday) the sixth edition of the International Cyber Crimes Conference. The conference is organized by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Institute of Training and Judicial Studies, in collaboration and coordination with the Ministry of Justice, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and the National Electronic Security Authority (NESA). It is held in conjunction with the International Exhibition for National Security and Resilience (ISNR Abu Dhabi 2016).

Lt. General Al Sha’far delivered the opening speech, conveying the greetings of HH Sheikh Saif and his wishes of success.

He also welcomed the legal experts, IT specialists, and participants of the conference. The participants gather to exchange and review best practices, address this important issue, and unify efforts and joint cooperation regarding raising awareness about these crimes. They will also discuss ways to face increasing the challenges of these crimes.

Lt. General Al Sha’far asserted that organizing the conference in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) embodies the MoI’s eagerness to consolidate the preventive aspect in the fight against crime and to strengthen the security, stability and public safety of UAE citizens and residents, which falls in line with the UAE Vision 2021.

He also noted that the MoI finished its project of developing smart applications and e-services infrastructure according to the best international standards. The MoI continuously works on assessing the operational status of e-services in accordance with the government standards of smart transformation. The MoI is also following up with the plan of enhancing and developing services according to the best international practices.

Furthermore, he explained that the MoI is introducing the latest developments and products of the IT industry, including advanced applications and technologies that can be used to develop work methods at its various bodies. It also helps to advance the efficiency and quality of services provided for citizens and residents of the UAE. The MoI has achieved important steps throughout its departments and bodies in developing the e-services ecosystem.

Concluding, Lt. General Al Sha’far expressed his wishes that the conference reaches the outcomes and recommendations that serve the security work and realizes its objectives. He also thanked the organizers and participants. Wishing them success, he prayed to God Almighty to preserve the blessings of security and safety.

The conference was attended by Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of the ISNR Abu Dhabi 2016; Counselor Dr. Mohammed Al Kamali, Director-General of the Institute of Judicial Training and Studies; and a number of officials and senior police officers.

After that, the activities of the conference started with reviewing and discussing a number of work papers presented by experts and researchers in the field of countering cybercrimes.

The first panel session was held under the title “National Agenda of Cybersecurity in the United Arab Emirates.” The session was attended by Nasser Al Riyahi from TRA, and Mohammed Al Junaibi from NESA.

The second panel session was held under the title “Towards Online Safety for Children.” Colonel Dr. Ibrahim Al Dabal, from the Khalifa Student Empowerment Program and Mohammed Giyath, from Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Learning Program, participated in this session.

During the conference, many other work papers which addressed various topics were discussed and reviewed. The titles of these work papers included: “Security of Online Financial Services, Necessity or Privilege?” “Smart Citizen Awareness, Culture, the Digital Divide – Challenges & Opportunities,” “Privacy in the Age of Smart Transformation and Smart Cities,” “Security in the Age of the Internet of Things (IoT),” and “Smart City Security.”
