Ninth Sporting Event for MoI Staff Members Kicks off

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, March 12th 2016 [ME NewsWire]
Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the ninth Sporting Event for MoI Staff Members will kick off tomorrow (Sunday). The event is organized by the Police Sports Association and will continue until March 23. Six sectors will be taking part in the event, including the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; the Undersecretary of the MoI; the Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs; ; the Assistant Undersecretary for Resources and Support Services; the Civil Defense General Headquarters of the Sector; and the Police College. The sporting competitions will be held in several locations, including Zayed Sport City, the Ministry of Interior’s Headquarters, the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, and the Police College.
The competitions include Five-a-side Football Championship for the over-40 year old, the Seven-a-side Football, Beach Volleyball, Tug of war, Pistol Shooting for Men, Pistol Shooting for women, Pistol Shooting for Officers, Pistol Shooting for Senior Officers, Bowling, Running for under 30 year-old and the over 30-year old, Race-walking for the over 40-year old, Race-walking for women and Workers, Snooker, and the Table Tennis Championship; as well as cultural competitions for male and female staff members, and the Fitness and Challenge Championship.
Organizing the Ninth Sporting Event for MoI Staff Members falls in line with the police leadership’s instructions regarding the need to dedicate attention to police sports, in order to develop and enhance it. This underscores the fact that practicing sports is a necessity, since it contributes to improving the level of services and tasks carried out by police members to serve society. It also represents a means for acquaintance for all staff members. In order to implement these instructions and within the leadership’s keenness, the Police Sports Association endeavors achieve its strategy and mission aimed at promoting sports among all police staff members in the UAE.
Sports Legislations Course Concludes
On a related note, the activities of the Sports Legislation and Law Management Course concluded. The course was organized by the Police Sports Association for five days, and was attended by staff members from the police headquarters and general directorates, in addition to a number of police staff members from GCC countries. The course was held at Leaders Qualification Center in Dubai.
Colonel Khaled Ali Shahil, Deputy Chairman of the Police Sports Association, emphasized that the Association attaches significant importance to specialized courses across all fields, via a wide array of plans and programs. This approach is designed to lay strong and solid foundations and provide highly qualified police sports personnel, armed with specialized scientific and practical knowledge, to empower them to make a difference in their discipline. The Association is also keen to provide staff members with the latest information and knowledge in the sports planning field.
Adding further, Colonel Shahil said: “Participants in the course underwent distinguished training and education, which was provided by an elite group of academics. This contributed to positively develop and hone the potentials of all of the participants who attended the Sports Legislations Course.
Colonel Ali Shahil honored participants at the course and the audience. The event was attended by Colonel Aref Ali Obaid Al Rayes, Acting Head of the Police Sports Association Department.
The course included specialized lectures delivered by Dr. Muhammad Fadlullah from the American University in the Emirates (AUE); Dr. Ali Sammaka from the American University in the Emirates (AUE); and Dr. Saud Al Junaibi from the Police Sports Association. The lecturers tackled sports legislations, their importance and objectives, in addition to the most important legislations and related legal concepts, and their role in determining the sports structure, as well as the role of academic institutions in developing sports legislations.
